‘plant-bombing’

wayut (Woiwurrung) (eucalyptus stringybark), karawun (Woiwurrung) (lomandra longifolia), ban (Gunaikurnai) (kangaroo grass), buffalo grass, camellia petals, spinach, leek, potato skins on chicken wire.
this work started as a way to weave diverse narratives & beings together in interconnected, non linear ways but through the process of making, it changed. i was uncomfortable using the found chicken wire, due to its connotations of fencing to keep beings out, so i turned it upside down & installed it inside the walls of an academic institution to disrupt its historic use. now it acts as a criticism of how the ‘subaltern’ (marginalised / colonised people) have been excluded from academic spaces, but it’s also a subversive, counter hegemonic statement: like plants growing up a trellis, we’re climbing our way up.
